It is a 2.75G mobile phone with huge multitouch screen with virtual keyboard, wi-fi, 4GB or 8GB of flash NAND memory and 2.0Mpix camera. This doesn’t describe why iPhone is so “cool” - it’s because the software. Hardware

The brain

The brain of iPhone is an ARM 1176JZF processor with TrustZone.
It’s clock is set to 620MHz, but it can be overclocked to 700MHz.
It has 16KB / 16KB cache, ARM Intelligent Energy Manager (can reduce power consumption by 25-50%),
vector floating point coprocessor (for 3D graphics), ARM Jazelle (for Java execution), SIMD (high performance integer CPU).
It has 0.45mW/MHz power draw.

The screen

iPhone has a high quality 3.5 inch screen covered by optical quality glass.
Screen resolution is quite low - 320×480 (at 160 PPI).
In one of the next sections, I’ll tell You about screen’s stress tests - it’s more though than You think.

The battery

iPhone battery
There is a builtin lithium ion battery that cannot be changed outside Apple’s service.
Here are some Apple’s informations about this battery:
Talk time: Up to 8 hours
Standby time: Up to 250 hours
Internet use: Up to 6 hours
Video playback: Up to 7 hours
Audio playback: Up to 24 hours

The battery’s maximal recharges number is estimated to 300-400.
I think that iPhone should stay alive for about 180 hours on one recharge, that’s over a week.
Now, let’s multiply this by 350 (aprox. number of recharges). This gives us 63 000 hours of using iPhone - it’s about 7 years.
The production cost of this buttery is $5.20.

The camera

iPhone camera
Nothing special, just a 2Mpix camera that only can take still pictures - no video!
The production cost of this camera is $9.50.

The memory

iPhone flash memory

There are two versions of iPhone - first with 4GB(on picture above) and second with 8GB of memory.
It’s a NAND flash memory produced by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.
The chip is marked as “SAMSUNG 710″ for 4GB and
“SAMSUNG 713″ for 8GB. Also, on both chips there is such label: “K9HBG08U1M”.
The production cost of 4GB is $24.00, of 8GB - $48.00.
